IN THIS LESSON

Overview:

• Bach's Prelude (like most of them) is through composed, meaning the form doesn't fit into a specific type. You can divide it into a beginning, middle and end.

• It's a moto perpetuo (perpetual motion) style, meaning one type of note value predominates the piece, producing a flowing and driving feel.

• The beginning section uses a repeating motive

• The middle section uses a dominant pedal

• The end section uses a bariolage

• A bariolage means 'multi-colored' and is where notes are alternated on adjacent strings, one of which is usually open. This displays the individual timbre of different strings.
