Compose A Piece in 30 Minutes

Learn the tools and process you need to start composing right away

Here’s how it works

By using this template, you can channel your creativity into a proven structure that’s been used countless times by composers for many generations.

The template provided for you uses structures and chords that commonly occur in music. You just have to simply follow the plan!

One suggested process to use is as follows:

1) Play through the chords (5 minutes)

2) Write a melody using mostly chord tones (10 minutes)

3) Fill in the texture with notes of the chord. Try to create an accompaniment using arpeggios, pedal tones or a ‘piano left hand’ texture. (10 minutes)

4) Edit and refine: make it easy for yourself to play and tweak anything that you feel isn’t working. (5 minutes)

New to Notation?

You can download MuseScore for free, a powerful and intuitive notation program!

If you need a notation app or simpler program…

If you feel that MuseScore is too steep a learning curve, then try using Flat. It’s a free app that works on any device and is super simple to use. You can input notes using a guitar fretboard. It’s more basic than MuseScore, so if you want a more polished looking score then MuseScore is recommended.

“Composing using this method really reinvigorated my relationship with the guitar. When you are crafting phrases together, music theory becomes tangible and not just an academic exercise. I enjoyed every minute and can’t thank you enough!”
