Step 1: Define Your Ideal Client Profile

• Age Range:

  • Children (Ages 7-12): Old enough to have the attention span and finger strength required, yet young enough to develop excellent technique from scratch.

  • Teenagers (Ages 13-18): Often motivated by school music programs or personal interest in music, can be very dedicated.

  • Adults (19+): From young adults seeking a new hobby to retirees looking for a fulfilling activity; they often have the discipline and appreciation for the art.

• Musical Background:

  • Beginners: Eager to learn from the ground up, no bad habits to correct.

  • Some Musical Experience: Individuals who might play other instruments but are new to guitar, bringing transferable skills like reading music or understanding rhythm.

• Interests and Goals:

  • Classical Music Enthusiasts: A passion for classical music or a desire to understand and perform this genre specifically.

  • Goal-Oriented Learners: Whether aiming to perform, compose, teach, or achieve grades in music exams.

• Personality Traits:

  • Patience: Classical guitar requires meticulous practice.

  • Discipline: Regular practice is crucial for progress.

  • Creativity: While classical music follows strict forms, interpretation and personal expression are valuable.

• Learning Style:

  • Detail-Oriented: Classical guitar technique is very precise.

  • Aural Learners: Good for learning by ear, which is common in music education but also benefits from reading music.

• Economic Factors:

  • Able to Afford Lessons: Classical guitar lessons can be an investment, including the cost of a good quality guitar.

  • Access to a Classical Guitar: Preferably nylon-stringed for authentic sound and technique.

• Time Availability:

  • Regular Practice Time: Students who can commit to daily practice, even if short sessions.

• Cultural or Educational Background:

  • Students in Music Programs: Those in school or college where they might need or want additional tutoring or ensemble experience.

  • Lifelong Learners: Individuals interested in arts and culture, possibly involved in community music groups.

• Location:

  • Local or Online: Depending on whether you offer in-person lessons or are set up for high-quality online instruction.

• Support System:

  • Family Support: For younger students, having parents or guardians who encourage practice and attendance at lessons.

• Physical Attributes:

  • Finger Dexterity: While this can be developed, some initial aptitude can be beneficial.

  • No Major Hand Injuries: Or conditions that would severely limit playing ability.

Action Item: Create a list that characterises your ideal student. Do you already have an ideal student that you work with?

Step 2:  Create Your Brand

• What branding would your ICP resonate with?

• How is your value proposition?

Action Item #1: Decide on a name, logo, icon, colors, etc. that appeal to your ICP.
Action Item #2: Create a portfolio with examples lessons that appeal to your ICP.

Step 4: Message Your ICP

Warm Outreach

• Go on Facebook or Instagram, look at where your ICP are located.

• Ask if they would like a free consultation over Zoom (or in person if they’re local)

• Close them on your great package!
  

Cold  Outreach

• Organize a free concert or workshop in your area in order to draw ICP prospects

• Offer a free trial lesson valued at x $

• After the trial, close them on your great package!

Action Item: Reach out to as many ICP prospects as you can in the next 48 hours.
