Each November on CCG, members are challenged to compose a short melody each day of the month based on a prompt like “major,” “modal,”“insects,” “mountains,” etc.
A lot of guitarists suffer from writer’s block when it comes to composing, but with this challenge you’ll compose in new directions.
The video below is a compilation of various members playing some of the excerpts they wrote in 2022. I hope you appreciate the beautiful variety and diversity from each member. Some give explanations of their process, while others let the music speak for itself. Please enjoy! Stepwise: by Colleen
This melody makes you feel like you’re taking large steps through the repeating leaps of each note. The harmonic progression outlines the circle of 5ths - G-D-A-E-B-F#
Modern: by Ilay
This prompt inspired members to go into some very creative directions! Ilay spelled out the word ‘modern’ to create a melody. You can play the notes from left to right, or in the order that you would write the letters in, or in any order you like!
