Works by Albeñiz arranged by Severino Garcia Fortea

I just came across these beautiful transcriptions of the music of Albeñiz - some recordings are below.

S.G. Fortea (d. 1931) was an amateur guitarist and pupil of Tarrega, who may have influenced the transcriptions of Llobet.

Granada (Serenata)

This piece is usually played in E on the guitar (as in the recording below, arr. Segovia), but this one is in the key of A.

Asturias by Isaac Albeniz (arr. Malcolm Perris)

Asturias is definitely one of the landmark pieces of the Classical gui- tar repertoire with the most famous arrangement by Andres Segovia even though it is presumed to be originally arranged by Severino García Fortea and most likely put in E Minor by Francisco Tarrega.

To arrange Asturias into D minor I have retuned the B String to A to use as the drone note against the lower moving melodic part. I have notat- ed all notes on this string as if it was tuned to B, to make for easier reading, I have notated as much as possible for this occurrence. The low E String is also lowered to D and the notes on this string are no- tated as such.

I hope you enjoy the different emotion and feeling the key of D minor gives to this wonderful piece on the guitar.
